I have always loved the royal family, I was and still am fascinated by Buckingham Palace and all that goes on behind those gates. As a child I remember the excitement of the 'trooping of the colour' and any other event that involved crowds of people in London hoping to get a glimpse of the Royal family.
When I lived in Great Britain I don't think I would have ever considered myself patriotic or really ever given it much thought but ever since moving state side I can't get enough of all things British! I have come to realize how much history, tradition and beauty lies in my homeland and how unique that is in comparison to many other places in the world.
Today marks Queen Elizabeth II becoming the longest reigning monarch of Great Britain, she has served the nation for sixty three years and seven months! today's illustration is a tribute to Her Majesty.
Here are a few funny ties that I have to the Royal family:
1. My dad (who is a retired police officer) once drove Prince Charles and on completion of the drive he said to my dad "Excellent drive."
2. My husband and I got married in the UK on July 4th and with me being British and my husband being American my dad somehow felt compelled to write a letter the Queen informing her of the event. At our wedding during my dad's speech he told us all that he had written to the Queen and then pulled out a letter that he had received from Buckingham Palace! it was from one of the Queen's ladies in waiting, she said that the Queen took interest in hearing about our wedding and wished us a very happy day and a wonderful marriage.
3. A number of my husband's friends and family flew over to the UK for our wedding and while one of his aunts was in London she got to shake Prince Williams hand and exchange a few words with him.
